Dear Archbishop, Bishops,
Monsignors and Priests:
It
is a great JOY for me to participate in this
celebration of your priesthood in the year
dedicated to the priests by our Holy Father
Benedict XVI. This event, of prayer and
fraternity, has as a theme:
“The Heart of the Priest, the Heart of
Christ”.
What a gift and what a mystery!. A
gift and a task!
Your priestly hearts are a living
enfleshment of the Heart of Christ, a
continuation in history of the love of the
Heart of the Redeemer who loved us, as the
Gospel of St. John tells us, to the end.
The Priestly Heart of Christ, grew in grace,
wisdom and stature before God and men, in
the Home and the School of Our Lady’s
Maternal Heart, in Her Maternal Love. The
Heart of Mary is the Home and the School of
the Priestly Heart. It is in Mary’s heart,
where priests can learn with her and through
her, to contemplate the mysteries of the
Heart of Jesus, gazed “through the eyes of
her who was closest to the Lord and in this
way the unfathomable riches of these
mysteries are disclosed” (RVM, 12).
The “School of Mary” is all the more
effective, said John Paul II (cf. RVM, 14),
because she not only teaches and leads the
priestly heart through the mysteries of
Jesus’ life, but also because she will
indicate which areas need to be formed,
elevated, healed, restored and matured to be
more closely identified with the Heart of
her Son.
She is your Mother, Her Heart is your home
where she holds you and keeps you as her
most precious treasure, the first fruit of
the Pierced heart of Her Son. You Dear
Priests, are her most precious inherence:
you are the testament of Her Son’s Heart to
her Maternal Heart: Women, behold your
son”… And, She is the gift of Jesus’ Heart
to your priestly hearts: “son, behold your
mother”.
It is my deepest prayer, dear priests of
the Archdiocese of Miami, that you may know
how much Our Lady loves you, and how much
she desires to be brought into the homes of
your hearts. How much She desires to care,
form, communicate all her maternal love and
protection to you, living images of Her
Son.
In the name of all the sisters, SCTJM and
myself, I would like to tell you that in the
simplicity of our marian hearts, we desire
to spiritually build for you, with our
prayers, sacrifices, feminine genius,
service and talents, a home, a marian home
for the priestly hearts. Please, know of
our deepest gratitude to the Father for
having called you to be other Christ’s and
to give us, Christ… and also, we desire to
express to each one you our gratitude for
your response of love, for your fiat, for
choosing to love Christ and His Church, to
love us, to the end.
May you become in the Heart
of the Mother, in the Heart of the Church…
the fullness of who you are. Priests of the
Archdiocese of Miami, do not be afraid to be
who you are! The priesthood is your gift and
it is also, your task!
